Flexible team management and competition structures for any trip format.

Team Creation

Manual Teams

Create teams by:

1. Navigate to Teams in your trip
2. Click Add Team
3. Name your team
4. Add players to the team

Automatic Team Assignment

In the trip creation wizard’s Teams step you can fill teams with Randomize or Balance by Handicap (a snake draft by index). After the trip exists, teams are edited by hand on Players → Teams, or picked live with the captains’ draft.

Captains and Vice Captains

Each team can have a captain and a vice captain. Both get the same powers in the player portal: they run the live draft and manage the team’s identity. The vice captain is the stand-in when the captain is on the course or unavailable.

Set them from the trip’s Players → Teams tab: click the pencil on a team card to open Edit Team, then pick the captain and vice captain from the team’s members. Captains show a Capt badge and vice captains a Vice badge next to their name, and the card header lists both.

Editing a Team

The same Edit Team dialog (pencil icon on the team card) lets organizers change the team’s:

• Name
• Emoji logo — pick from the full emoji picker (flags work well for USA vs Europe style events)
• Color — preset swatches or any custom color
• Captain and vice captain

Use the people icon on the card to add or remove players. Adding uses a searchable picker so long rosters don’t get cut off.

Tournament Teams

Team competitions (Point Game, Best Ball, scrambles, a Ryder Cup) each carry their own teams, separate from the trip-wide Players → Teams roster. You don’t have to know who’s playing to set the game up:

1. Create the tournament from Competitions. On the wizard’s Teams step, name your teams (add a third or fourth if you need them) and either assign players right away or leave the rosters empty — Continue and Create Tournament work either way.
2. Fill in the rosters later from either place:
   • The tournament’s Teams tab (Competitions → Configure → Teams)
   • The round page → Pairings → Set teams, for the team competition that round plays

On both screens you can Add team, rename a team by clicking its name, pick players with the searchable Add player to … control, remove a player with the ×, delete a team (trash icon, as long as two remain), and name a captain for the live draft.

Not everyone on the trip has to be in the game — leave the rest off. The picker only offers players who aren’t already on a team, and a player can only be on one team per tournament. A Ryder Cup is always exactly two sides, so it has no Add team button.

Competition Types

Points-Based

Teams earn points through individual or team performance:

• Configurable point values
• Running team standings
• Multiple ways to earn points

Match Play

Head-to-head team competitions:

• Fourball (better ball) matches
• Foursomes (alternate shot)
• Singles matches
• Combined formats (Ryder Cup style)

Combined Events

Run multiple competition types simultaneously:

• Individual stroke play plus team points
• Multiple team competitions in one trip

Series Teams

For annual trips tracked as a tournament series (like a yearly Ryder Cup trip), define each team’s identity once and reuse it every year.

What’s Stored

Each series team has a persistent:

• Name — your own team names (e.g., “Sharks” vs “Jets”)
• Color — used on leaderboards, banners, and records
• Emoji — optional badge shown next to the team
• Order — controls display order across the app

Managing Series Teams

1. Open your trip’s Tournament Series section and expand the Ryder Cup series
2. Click the settings (gear) icon on the series record banner
3. Add, rename, recolor, reorder, or remove teams (a series always needs at least two)
4. Click Save Teams

If you previously customized colors/emoji with the older Customize Team Appearance dialog, use Convert to Series Teams inside that dialog. It creates series teams from your current names and styling, and the series uses them from then on.

Applying to a Tournament

Each linked tournament shows an Apply Teams action. It syncs the series’ team names, colors, and emoji onto that year’s tournament teams — overwriting whatever was set on the tournament. Use it after creating a new year’s tournament or to fix drift between years.

Team Features

Team Cards

Each team card on Players → Teams shows the roster, captain and vice captain, colour and emoji. Standings and match status live on the Standings tab and in the portal.

History

Series teams carry their record from year to year in the Tournament Series section.
