Captains’ Draft

Run your Ryder Cup pairings night live in the app. Captains alternate picks — one captain puts a match out, the other answers with the opponents — and every phone (plus the TV display) shows the board fill in as it happens. When the draft is done, one tap turns the matchups into the round’s official pairings, ready for scoring.

Setting up

  1. Name your captains. In the team editor for your Ryder Cup, set a captain for each side. Only captains (and trip admins) can make picks.
  2. Open Captains’ Draft from the trip portal home and choose:
    • The session (Fourball, Alternate Shot, Singles, …)
    • The round the matchups will play in
    • Pairs (2v2) or Singles (1v1) and the number of matches
    • Which team puts the first match out — the lead alternates every match after that, so both captains get the reaction advantage
    • An optional pick timer to keep the table honest
  3. Hit Start draft when everyone’s ready.

Draft night

  • The captain on the clock sees their remaining roster and locks in a pick; players already put out are greyed out.
  • Everyone else watches the matchup board update live — no refreshing.
  • The TV display automatically switches to the draft board while a draft is running.
  • Made a mess of it? A trip admin can undo the last pick (repeatedly), or cancel the draft entirely.

After the last pick

The draft completes automatically once the final answer is in. A trip admin then taps Apply to round, optionally with a first tee time and interval — the matchups become the round’s groups (lead pair listed first in each), so team scorecards, live match status, and the Ryder Cup scoreboard all work with nothing re-entered.

Good to know:

  • Applying is blocked if the round already has scores — reset the round’s scorecards first if you’re re-drafting.
  • One draft per session + round; cancel the old one to start over.
  • Captains using a trip access link (no account) can draft — no sign-in needed.

History at your fingertips

When your trip is linked into a trip series, the pick screen shows cross-trip records inline: pick one player and each candidate partner shows your career record together (“2-1 together”); in the answer phase, candidates show their record against the announced opponents. Refresh the history from the series page after each trip — records come from the actual Ryder Cup matches played through the app, so imported historical years without scorecards don’t contribute (appearance counts keep sparse records honest).
