Flights

Flights (handicap divisions) keep every skill level competing for real prizes in events with a wide handicap spread. Instead of one combined payout that the low handicaps always win, players are grouped into divisions and the payout structure applies within each flight.

Setting Up Flights

Open a tournament and go to the Flights tab:

  1. Auto-Assign by Handicap - choose the number of flights (2-6) and a seeding method, then click Auto-Assign:
    • Handicap Index - uses each player’s handicap index
    • Playing Handicap - uses the playing handicap from the tournament’s rounds, falling back to the index for players without one
  2. Manual adjustments - rename flights, add or remove flights, and move players between flights, then save.

Auto-assign sorts players from best to worst (plus handicaps first) and splits them evenly. When the split is uneven, the extra players go to the earlier flights - for example, 17 players in 3 flights becomes 6 / 6 / 5. Each flight records the handicap range of its players. Players without a handicap are placed in the last flight.

Flight Leaderboards

When a tournament has flights, the leaderboard shows filter chips - All Players plus one chip per flight. Selecting a flight filters the standings to that flight’s players and re-ranks positions within the flight (ties keep shared positions).

Flight Payouts

With flights configured, the purse splits equally across flights and the payout structure applies within each flight. For example, a $300 purse with three flights and a 70/30 structure pays $70 / $30 in each flight. Ties within a flight split the combined prize money, just like the overall payout rules. The Payouts tab shows a per-flight preview of purses and winners.

Per-flight purse amounts are currently always an equal split - configurable per-flight purses are planned. Flights apply to individual payouts; team-based payouts (pay teams) and Ryder Cup tournaments ignore flights.

Day-Of Player Check-In

The registration table is the first thing players see on event day. The Player Check-In panel on the event detail page turns any phone or tablet into a check-in station for staff and volunteers.

Checking Players In

  1. Open the event in the dashboard and find the Player Check-In card
  2. Type a few letters of the player’s name (or email) in the search box - the list filters instantly
  3. Review the player’s row:
    • Group assignment - group number, tee time, and starting hole if they have been paired
    • Purchases - chips for pre-bought packages like “3x Mulligan” or “5x Raffle Ticket”, so volunteers know exactly what goes in the packet
    • Balance due - a red badge appears when the amount paid is less than the registration fee (e.g. “$50 due”), so you can collect before handing over the packet
  4. Tap the large Check In button - it turns green and shows the time (“Checked in 9:02 AM”)

Tapping a green button asks for confirmation before undoing the check-in, so accidental taps are harmless. Checking in an already-checked-in player keeps the original time.

Live Progress

The header shows a running count - “37 / 144 checked in” - with a progress bar, and the list refreshes automatically so multiple volunteers can work the table from separate devices at the same time. Filter pills narrow the list to Remaining, Checked in, or Balance due players at a glance.

Tips for Event Day

  • Stage two volunteers: one searching and checking in, one handling payments for players with a balance-due badge
  • Use the Balance due filter before the shotgun start to chase down outstanding fees
  • Check-in works alongside the other day-of tools (scorecards, cart signs, QR handouts) on the same page
