GPS Rangefinder

Free, built-in GPS yardage for every round. No downloads, no subscriptions, no extra devices.

What It Does

The GPS rangefinder provides real-time distance measurements while you play:

  • Distance to pin: Primary yardage for club selection
  • Distance to green: Center, front, and back of green
  • Hazard distances: Bunkers, water, and other obstacles
  • Live updates: Position refreshes automatically as you walk

Why It Matters

No Additional Costs

Most GPS golf apps charge $30-50 per year for yardage data. Our GPS is included free with your event registration. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases.

No Downloads Required

Access GPS directly in your browser. Works immediately without installing an app or creating another account. Perfect for players who don’t use GPS regularly.

Integrated Experience

GPS and scoring in one place. Enter your score and see your yardage without switching apps. Everything you need for the round in a single interface.

Works on Any Device

Use your existing smartphone. iPhone, Android, or tablet — if it has GPS and a browser, it works. No special hardware required.

How It Works

Browser Geolocation

We use your device’s built-in GPS through standard browser APIs. This is the same technology that maps and navigation apps use.

Accurate Distance Calculation

Distances are calculated using the Haversine formula, which accounts for the Earth’s curvature. Over golf course distances (under 600 yards), accuracy is within 1% of actual distance.

Real-Time Updates

Your position updates every 5 seconds while the scoring interface is open. Walk toward the green and watch the yardage decrease in real time.

What You’ll See

On the Tee

  • Distance to the center of the green
  • Distances to fairway hazards (bunkers, water)
  • Full hole yardage for reference

In the Fairway

  • Distance to the pin (primary display)
  • Distance to green center (useful backup)
  • Distances to greenside bunkers and hazards

Near the Green

  • Precise yardage for approach shots
  • Front and back of green distances
  • Nearest hazards for risk assessment

Technical Details

Accuracy

  • Typical accuracy: 5-10 meters (5-10 yards)
  • Best conditions: Open sky, clear weather
  • Reduced accuracy: Dense trees, cloudy weather

Battery Impact

GPS uses approximately 10-15% of your battery over a full 18-hole round. This is comparable to other GPS golf applications and won’t significantly impact your device.

Data Usage

GPS coordinates are processed locally on your device. Less than 1MB of data is used per round, primarily for loading course hole data.

Privacy First

Local Processing

All distance calculations happen on your device. Your GPS coordinates never leave your phone.

No Location Storage

We don’t store your location history. Where you walked on the course, where you hit from, how long you spent on each hole — none of this is recorded.

No Third-Party Tracking

We use your browser’s native Geolocation API. No external GPS services, no location analytics, no selling data to advertisers.

Full Control

You control location access through your browser settings. Grant permission when you want GPS, revoke it anytime. The feature continues to work without GPS — you just won’t see distances.

Availability

Requires GPS Data

GPS yardages are available when the course administrator has added GPS coordinates for the holes. Not all courses have this data yet.

Courses with GPS

Check with your tournament organizer if GPS will be available. Courses are being added continuously.
